iphone 16 iconApple has just published a new promotional video for the iPhone 16, highlighting the (only) big new feature: the Camera Control button. While the first ad focused on future Apple Intelligence features, this latest video highlights the power of this new button.

The advantage of the iPhone 16

As seen during the iPhone 16 presentation, this button allows quick access to the camera and supports gestures to adjust settings in Apple’s native application. You can, for example, use it to modify features like zoom or depth of field, simply by tapping or sliding on it. This button, available on all iPhone 16 models (including base and Pro versions), makes taking photos more intuitive.

Optimal use in landscape mode

The video particularly highlights the fact that the “Camera Control” button works optimally in landscape mode. Although the button is accessible in all orientations, Apple seems to have designed this feature for two-handed use, holding the iPhone horizontally. This could explain why some users, accustomed to taking photos in portrait mode (holding their iPhone vertically), have difficulty taking full advantage of all the options imagined by the engineers. Also for left-handers, the button being located on the right.

Here is the video in question:

Updates coming with iOS 18.2

Apple plans to further improve this feature with the upcoming iOS 18.2 update, expected later this year. This update will notably allow the button to automatically lock focus and exposure with a simple light press, thus improving its use in portrait mode. This should make the tool more versatile and effective, no matter which orientation the user chooses.

After the action button last year, Apple has added another button for all photographers, amateurs or professionals. But this time, it’s not reserved for Pro models. At the same time, the new features would have been too meager without this. For our part, we would have liked a button that could be used in games.
