According to the latest indiscretions around the fourth generation iPhone SE, it should land during the first quarter of 2025. This iPhone SE 4 would be a source of modernity compared to previous generations, no more old design, move on on the screen with very limited edges, the notch and the screen… OLED! A much better display technology than LCD which will considerably improve the user experience for games, video content, etc.

Apple starts sourcing OLED screens and it’s not from Samsung Display

If the latest rumors are to be believed, the iPhone SE 4 should appear in early 2025. This claim becomes more and more serious as details about Apple’s organization become clearer in other reports. Indeed, the Cupertino company has already started supplying OLED screens for its next iPhone SE model, which could mean that production will begin very soon. Remember that production of new iPhones generally begins two to three months before the pre-order phase.

Apple begins sourcing OLED displays for the iPhone SE 4

Among the suppliers, BOE, a well-known Chinese manufacturer, as well as other Chinese players, were selected by Apple Park to supply the OLED screens of this new generation of iPhone SE. Surprisingly, LG Display and Samsung Display, which are long-time partners of Apple for its screens, were excluded from the iPhone SE 4 project. This exclusion could be explained by a search for savings on the part of Apple , BOE is in fact recognized for offering more competitive prices than its South Korean rivals, a significant advantage for Apple which seeks to maximize its margins, especially on a mid-range model like the iPhone SE.

As for design, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed that the iPhone SE 4 could borrow many elements from the iPhone 14, including an edge-to-edge display and a notch, ditching the (completely outdated) thick edges that characterized previous SE models. Another major development would be the integration of Face ID, with the larger OLED screen and without the traditional black bands at the top and bottom, Apple will no longer be able to offer the “Home” button, which will mark the definitive disappearance of Touch ID for iPhone SE.

These changes show that the iPhone SE 4 could not only offer a more modern visual experience, but also bring its features in line with those of high-end iPhones, while maintaining a more accessible approach in terms of price.
