Pixelmator will soon be owned by Apple. It is the company itself which has just confirmed this this Friday. Soon, Apple will be able to do what it wants with all the applications in the Pixelmator suite. Hopefully this is good news for customers as well.

A new home for Pixelmator

It’s official, Pixelmator will soon join Apple. The graphics software specializing in image editing has just published a blog post to announce the good news to everyone. A new era to come after more than 17 years of existence. Pixelmator has existed since September 25, 2007.

Subject to regulatory approval, Pixelmator will soon be in Apple’s hands. This does not impact the Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS and Photomator applications. Updates are coming, as initially planned, and the apps will obviously remain accessible on their respective platforms. Pixelmator continues to innovate with AI these days. On the other hand, we will have to understand what Apple has in mind for the years to come.

Pixelmator was already software reserved for Apple platforms via iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS. There is no version for Android or Windows. It is therefore already fully optimized for Apple devices, which makes it easier for the brand to get started. One more acquisition for the bitten apple.

Statement from the Pixelmator team:

We would like to thank our incredible users for their support over the past 17 years. Your feedback has played a huge role in how our apps operate today. As we enter this exciting new chapter, we can’t wait to share what’s next.

As the press release indicates, this acquisition will make it possible to reach an even wider audience within the community. Hopefully Apple will eventually integrate some additional editing tools directly into the app Photos of the iPhone. And why not make it free for all customers? Dreaming from time to time always feels good.
