Although this occurs regularly, recently Apple has carried one of the greatest app cleanups from its App Store, and not only due to viruses or problems in them, but for more reasons, leaving many users without the option to download them.
Some of them even had payment options, so if you have purchased that app or subscribed to a plan within it, you could lose it, since although the application will continue to be installed on your iPhone, if you delete it, you will not be able to download it again.
Why are applications deleted from the App Store?
There are many reasons why Apple cleans apps, and today we are going to know them all in a summary and easy to understand way, so if you no longer see an application or game in the store, these could be the causes:
- Obsolete apps: Apps that have not been updated in years and are not compatible with recent versions of iOS. Apple doesn't want to have these in its store, so it's removing them.
- Incompatibility with new technologies: Some apps do not support newer processors or functions such as dark mode and accessibility, if this is added to the fact that they have not been updated for years, the company itself will remove them from its Store.
- Lack of optimization for modern screens: Apps that do not adapt to current iPhone or iPad resolutions, so when downloaded on these devices, they look terrible, and do not meet the company's basic standards.
- Apps with vulnerabilities: Applications with security flaws that can put user data at risk, that is, gaps that are detected and developers do not correct.
- Presence of malware or spyware: Apple removes apps that contain malicious code or collect data without permission. This is something obvious, and they do it very frequently, both with new ones and with updates to others that, at first, were clean.
- False promises or scams: Fraudulent apps that deceive users with hidden subscriptions or false promises.
- Copyright violation: Apps that use content without permission (logos, music, images, etc.), as well as viewing football games, movies, and all illegal streaming.
- Breach of privacy policies: Applications that collect information without informing the user.
- Cloned or copied apps: Apple eliminates clones of popular apps to avoid saturation of repeated content, especially wallpapers and other applications that are easy to copy and very repetitive.
- Applications without active developer: If a developer does not respond to reviews or requests from Apple, the app may be removed.
In short, as we see, there are many reasons why an app may no longer appear in the store, including the developer's own decision, who could voluntarily delete it. However, Apple also does it for multiple reasons, and you will not be able to download it again, unless they correct the problem and republish it, so if you had purchased it, it is quite frustrating.
