Since around midnight, Apple has been offering iPhone users a big corrective update numbered iOS 18.0.1. This new software version for the iPhone fixes several bugs, but also provides resolutions to security concerns, including one which was quite sensitive for confidentiality!

With the iOS 18 update, Apple inadvertently added some bugs such as a difficulty with the touch screen on the iPhone 16, the Message application which crashed… The good news is that all this is corrected with iOS 18.0 .1.

While app crashes are generally harmless, iOS 18 presented a much more concerning issue: a security flaw related to the iPhone’s microphone, potentially compromising your privacy. Under iOS 18.0, when an application activated your iPhone’s microphone, the orange dot supposed to indicate this activity took several seconds to appear at the top of the screen!

Apple has fixed 2 security issues with iOS 18.0.1, including a tricky one with the microphone!

On its support site, Apple has revealed have fixed this issue with the microphone indicator enabled, but the company has also fixed another security-related concern for the Passwords application:

Impact: Audio messages in Messages may capture a few seconds of audio before the microphone indicator is activated.


Description: This issue has been resolved with improved checks.

Impact: VoiceOver may read a user’s saved passwords.


Description: A logical issue was resolved through improved validation.
