Apple Intelligence will soon be available as part of iOS 18.1, at least for Americans, before a first expansion to English-speaking countries. If you are one of them, here is some useful information, such as the list of compatible devices, as well as the necessary storage space. Let’s take this opportunity to remind you of the artificial intelligence features that will arrive in France in 2025.

4 GB storage required

According to a support document Published by the American manufacturer, Apple Intelligence will require specific storage space.

Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, all iPhone 16 models, and M1 and later iPad and Mac models. iPhone devices require 4GB of storage*.

So you will need at least 4 GB of free space to install and use the Apple Intelligence features, in addition to the iOS 18.1 update itself. But if you read carefully, only iPhones have this requirement. What is even stranger is that Apple has not specified anything for iPads and Macs. Will they only use Private Cloud? It is possible, these devices being, a priori, always connected to Wi-Fi.

That’s not all. The asterisk at the end of the quote points us to another indication: the 4GB is just a starting point for the initial set of AI features. So the storage requirements for Apple Intelligence models on the device will increase as more features are rolled out.

Of course, Apple doesn’t give any specific figures on the target amount of additional storage, but we can imagine that it will quickly increase. If you are a fan of tools like ChatGPT, then consider getting an iPhone with a large storage capacity. 256 or 512 GB.

Apple AI-enabled devices

Apple Intelligence, probably the biggest new feature of the year from Tim Cook’s company, requires some power to run. Currently available to beta testers with a supported device, it will be released as part of iOS 18.1, macOS Sequoia 15.1, and iPadOS 18.1.

Here is the full list of compatible devices:

We can bet that the upcoming iPad mini 7, as well as the iPhone SE 4, will also be compatible, in order to reach as many users as possible. As for the iPad 11, it is not certain.

No other Apple device will support the AI platform.
Vision Pro support is reportedly on the way, and perhaps the new HomePod models will be powerful enough to accommodate the new Siri. As for the Apple Watch, even the Series 10 isn’t compatible. Too bad.

Apple Intelligence Features

As seen during the official Apple Intelligence presentation, the first wave of AI features includes language tools to analyze and revise your writing in different styles, or check grammar and spelling. Among the notable new features, notification summaries make notifications more actionable, and similar options are available in Mail, Safari, and Messages.

The new, more powerful Siri will be available with iOS 18.1 on devices that support Apple Intelligence, although some advanced features like contextual awareness and ChatGPT integration will come later.

Image tools to create visuals from descriptions will launch in iOS 18.2 via the Image Playground app and the Genmoji feature.
