With the launch of iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2, Apple introduced several new features related to Apple Intelligence, including Image Playground, the integration of ChatGPT in Siri and especially Genmoji, one of the most fun features of this year . To mark the occasion, Apple released a new ad titled “Imagine it. Genmoji it”, highlighting the creative potential of this new feature… on iPhone 16 of course.
What is Genmoji?
Genmoji, which stands for “generated emojis,” uses advanced language models from Apple Intelligence to transform text descriptions into personalized emojis. Available in the Messages app and other compatible apps, Genmoji lets users create unique avatars simply by describing whatever they want. For example, you can ask for a “dog wearing Christmas clothes” and see that idea turn into an emoji.
According to Apple, Genmoji can be used anywhere rich text can be displayed.
Creative advertising
Apple’s ad features a series of original Genmojis, illustrating the variety of possible creations. Accompanied by the original song Anything You Like by The Dareit shows animated characters corresponding to amusing descriptions such as a gnome, a moss, a pink comb or even a chrome skeleton. Each Genmoji appears on screen as soon as it is mentioned in the song, highlighting the power and creativity of this technology.

Availability
Genmojis are generated directly on-device, requiring an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad. This includes the iPhone 15 Pro and later models, as well as iPads with the M1 chip or newer, including the latest iPad mini 7 and its A17 Pro chip (the one in the iPhone 15 Pro). Apple also announced that a future macOS update will make Genmoji available on Mac. Probably macOS 15.3.
Please note, French is still not supported by Apple Intelligence, which means that you will not have access to Genmoji. Unless you use our trick. The global launch is planned for April 2025, at least in the EU.
To take advantage of Genmoji and other new features, users can update their device by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Even if your device doesn’t support Apple Intelligence, iOS 18.2 has plenty of other improvements to check out.
