As with the AirPods Pro 2 last week, Apple released update 7B19 for both variants of AirPods 4. This is the second version since the launch of the wireless headphones, the previous one was number 7A304 last September.
An update for what?
Apple recently updated the AirPods Pro 2 to add health features such as a hearing test, hearing protection, and hearing aid functionality. The AirPods Pro 2 (Lightning and USB-C) work with 7B19 firmware, but hearing aid functionality is not provided in the AirPods 4. However, their hardware is very close. We imagine that this is simply a software limitation.
In any case, it is not known what the new AirPods 4 firmware contains, but it is available for standard AirPods 4 and AirPods 4 with ANC.
For the record, Apple still doesn’t offer a clear way to update AirPods software, but it’s typically installed over-the-air when AirPods are placed in a charging case and connected to an iPhone or Mac.
If you are looking for wireless headphones without in-ear tips, know that the AirPods 4 are the best at the moment, starting at 149 euros. An excellent gift idea for the end-of-year holidays, just like the cleaning kit that we presented in the middle of the month.
