What will the glass of the folding iPhone be like?
Apple continues to work on its first foldable iPhone, and one of the parts that is being discussed the most is the screen. In all normal folding phones, a kind of visible “crease” forms right where the screen is folded, and Apple wants to avoid that at all costs. To try this, I would be trying a type of very thin and flexible glass that changes thicknessbeing thinner right in the area where it bends and thicker around it to make it more stable.
The idea of this glass is that the phone looks as smooth as possible when you have it open, without that line or wrinkle that other folding phones usually have. It is not a simple thing: a screen has to be both robust and flexible, and that is not easy to achieve without the crease being visible.

The plan is for this foldable iPhone to arrive along with the iPhone 18 Pro in 2026, leaving the basic iPhone 18 for 2027, although nothing is officially confirmed yet. If Apple manages to make the crease almost invisible, it would be an important step to differentiate itself from other foldables that do easily show that crease when looking at them from the front or from side angles, which makes many people discard it, because, for its price, no one likes having to see that.
In short, Apple is exploring a screen with ultra-thin glass that can be folded without the crease being very noticeable.
