A few weeks after its release, the iPad mini 6 was the victim of a small scandal, the tablet had “Jelly Scrolling”, meaning page scrolling which was not fluid. Apple was never able to fix the problem because it was actually a hardware reaction. With the iPad mini 7, the problem would no longer apply!
Good news… to be confirmed
In the latest podcast of Six ColorsJason Snell and Dan Moren discussed the new iPad mini 7 and potential improvements to its screen, especially regarding the jelly scrolling issue. Snell has heard that hardware changes have been made to the screen that could resolve the issue, although he could not confirm the exact details with his source. He speculated that the tweaks could reduce or eliminate the problem, although no one has yet been able to see the iPad mini 7 in action.
Choppy scrolling is a display issue where text or images appear to switch due to a lag between screen refresh rates. This issue was widely noticed on the iPad mini 6 after its release in 2021, with some users finding it annoying or causing eye strain. Although it likely affected other iPads, it was most noticeable on the iPad mini 6, and the severity of the issue varied depending on the user’s sensitivity to screen tearing. We also discovered it on the Apple Watch Ultra, exclusively.
Rumors circulated last year that Apple was planning to rotate the iPad mini 7’s screen to alleviate the problem. Although this information is not confirmed, it is expected that the hardware changes made to the new model will resolve the issue. The iPad mini 7 is scheduled to launch on October 23, and pre-orders are already available. Once the device is released, users and technical experts will be able to determine whether the jelly scrolling issue has been resolved. Additionally, an iFixit teardown should help identify any hardware modifications.
