Since its announcement, the iPhone 16 Pro has been consistently touted as offering the best photos and most impressive videos — an argument largely supported by Apple. However, what does it look like when you entrust the iPhone 16 Pro to a travel photographer? A professional opinion can also be interesting less than 24 hours before the start of marketing!
Can the iPhone 16 Pro replace a professional camera for travel?
Renowned travel photographer Austin Mann recently tested the all-new iPhone 16 Pro, which will be released tomorrow in France and many countries around the world. To put the device through its paces, Mann chose a breathtaking location: Kenya, with its breathtaking landscapes and exceptional light, perfect for pushing the iPhone 16 Pro’s features to their limits.
Mann took a look at several of the iPhone 16 Pro’s key features. One of the most notable advancements is the improved 48-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, which he says delivers “stunning” results. Whether capturing sweeping landscapes or fast-moving subjects, the sensor allowed Mann to capture incredibly sharp details.
In total, over 10,000 photos were taken during his testing, as well as 3TB of ProRes video, all captured using the Camera Control button, which the photographer says makes it “simpler and faster to access and capture photos.” Like other reviews, the photographer seems to think the Camera Control button is nice and convenient, but not essential.
Audio and video recording
The new audio recording features didn’t fail to impress either. Austin Mann appreciated the ability to shoot high-frame-rate ProRes Log directly to an SSD via the USB-C connection, a nice innovation for those working on high-quality productions. He noted that the transition from Lightning to USB-C is a major improvement, not only making file transfers faster, but also compatibility with a wider range of accessories. Ultimately, USB-C makes life easier in many areas…
Photographic styles and customization
One aspect that particularly appealed to Mann was the introduction of Photographic Styles, a feature that allows users to customize images directly from the camera, giving the user more creative control over the final look of their photos. This level of customization is essential for photographers who want to impose their own visual signature without having to resort to complex editing software.
Continuous improvements for professionals
Finally, Mann praised Apple’s commitment to providing ever more powerful tools for image professionals: faster charging, new accessory options… which continues to improve with each generation of iPhone.
“The Apple team has made steady progress on the camera experience”
With the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple looks set to perfect mobile photography once again, giving photographers like Austin Mann powerful tools to capture the world with precision and creativity.
