For the first time in iOS history, Apple is offering users the ability to change the color of their app icons. Don’t like Facebook’s blue or the white background of Shazam’s icon? No worries, you can now customize your app icons without developer approval, all from your iPhone’s home screen!

Light, dark, a special shade… It’s up to you!

One of the strengths of iOS 18 is customization, you can modify your control center as you wish, no longer respect the invisible grid for the placement of your applications and even… customize the color of the icons of your favorite apps.

If you’ve just installed iOS 18, you can now change the color of your apps. The principle is simple, you just have to hold down on an empty spot on the home screen and then touch the + at the top left of your screen.

As soon as you press the +, Apple will ask you what you want to do, you will have the choice between “Add a widget”, “Customize” or “Edit pages”. What will interest us in this tutorial is the second choice in the list!

As soon as you press it, a menu will appear at the bottom of your screen, you will have the choice between:

    • Clear

    • Dark

    • Car

    • Tinted

The third choice allows you to change your app icons to black whenever your iPhone switches to dark mode, this follows the schedule of the day (provided you have enabled the setting in your iPhone). The last choice concerns the tint of your apps, this is where you can choose a specific color for all your app icons.

As you can see in the screenshots above, when you tap on “tinted”, Apple will offer you to choose the color you want. You will have the possibility to change all the icons of your applications to green, red, blue… It’s up to you!

Once the choice is made, just leave this small menu and enjoy the new shade of your application icons. It’s a detail, it’s aesthetics, but it’s the first time that Apple offers users this customization feature, previously, it was up to developers to make other colors available for their application icon, some even allowed themselves to charge users just to change the color.

The iOS 18 update is available now on iPhones, to find out if your iPhone is eligible for iOS 18, feel free to take a look at the list of compatible devices. And our iSoft app is already up to date!
