As you know, after the iPad Pro, Apple is working on extending OLED display technology to several other iPad models, including a future foldable iPad, according to the company Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC). Enough to completely renew the range within three years.

OLED, OLED and OLED

According to the firm, the 8.5-inch iPad mini 8 OLED is scheduled for release in 2026, followed by 11- and 13-inch iPad Air 7 OLED models in 2027. With the adoption of OLED technology by the iPad Air and iPad mini, the majority of Apple’s lineup except the entry-level iPad is expected to feature this technology by 2027.

But the most interesting thing, because we already knew what is planned for the “standard” iPads, is that the Cupertino company would be working on an 18.8-inch foldable iPad Pro M6 with an OLED screen. This is the famous iPad Fold that we’ve been talking about for a while, and more particularly in the last few days. Several rumors suggest that a foldable iPad or MacBook could be one of Apple’s first foldable devices, as mentioned in a recent Wall Street Journal report. The latter indicates that Apple is developing a larger foldable device, “designed to serve as a laptop” and which would unfold to around 19 inches. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also reported on a foldable iPad this weekend, suggesting that this “giant” tablet would launch in 2028, with the ability to run Mac apps. According to Gurman, Apple wants to avoid having the upcoming foldable device have a visible crease, preferring for it to appear as a single piece of glass.

It remains to be seen whether this foldable device will be an iPad or a Mac, but both options seem possible depending on the operating system Apple chooses.

While iPhones and the Apple Watch have used OLED displays for years (2017 and 2015, respectively), it took time for larger OLED displays to become affordable enough for use in Macs and iPads. Apple introduced its first OLED iPads this year, with the 11- and 13-inch iPad Pro M4 models. Excellent tablets, but too expensive.
