Canal+ had already mentioned it in the past, it is now a done deal. The encrypted channel is withdrawing from DTT. The same goes for the group’s three other pay channels. A decision which will take effect in June 2025.

Canal+ leaves TNT

Canal+ has announced that it will stop broadcasting its pay channels on digital terrestrial television (DTT) from 2025. This strategic choice aims to refocus the group on its satellite, streaming and internet box offers. Canal+ explains this decision by the evolution of the consumption habits of spectators, who are increasingly opting for flexible digital services.

In addition to becoming obsolete, DTT now represents a source of problems for Canal+. Although the Vivendi group is the main financier of French cinema via the CNC, it deplores the tax and regulatory treatment it undergoes, which penalizes its activity in France. In addition, Arcom announced the official withdrawal of the C8 channel, belonging to Canal+, further aggravating the situation.

According to official figures from Canal+, around 70,000 subscribers still use TNT as a broadcast channel. These users will be contacted in the coming months to present to them the different alternatives available to continue consuming Canal+ content. Note that CNews and CStar will remain available on TNT, because they are completely free, unlike other pay channels.
