ChatGPT helps develop!

With the new “Work with Apps” feature, users can now directly send pieces of code from Xcode (or other compatible apps) to ChatGPT with an accompanying prompt.

In the demo, the OpenAI developer opened a simple Xcode project simulating the solar system, minus the Earth. The employee selected the Xcode tab in ChatGPT, allowing the AI to interact with the project, then asked to insert a centered view into the screen in progress, with a specific video feed. ChatGPT then added the necessary code in SwiftUI.

Although GitHub Copilot also offers Xcode integration, providing in-app coding assistance, ChatGPT integration differs. It relies on the macOS Accessibility API, originally designed for screen readers, which allows text to be read but not images or videos. Also remember that Xcode 16 now includes an AI-based tool for code completeness.

This new feature is available to ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Teams users starting today, and will soon be available to Enterprise and Educational (Edu) users. OpenAI has announced plans to further expand application integrations in the future.
