The latest update to OpenAI’s ChatGPT app introduces a handy new “Open SearchGPT” shortcut for iPhone and iPad users. With it, available in the Shortcuts app, tapping the shortcut launches the ChatGPT app and activates its web search functionality.

What is SearchGPT?

Launched in October, SearchGPT revolutionized the way ChatGPT searches the web. Unlike previous iterations, SearchGPT provides more context-rich results, links to relevant sources, and the ability to ask follow-up questions seamlessly. Who can use it?

Currently, SearchGPT is available to users subscribed to ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Teams, and OpenAI plans to expand it to free users in the coming months. To access the new SearchGPT action in the Shortcuts app, make sure you have the latest version of the ChatGPT app. The shortcut does not appear on free accounts.

How to use the shortcut?

  1. Update your ChatGPT application to the latest version (minimum 1.2024.324).
  2. Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone or iPad.
  3. Add the new “Open SearchGPT” action to quickly launch web search capabilities directly from Shortcuts.
