All of us who have a MacBook have had to decide between an Air and a Prosince the differences, at least years ago, were notable. While an Air was aimed at simple tasks, with longer battery life and lighter weight, the Pro was for those who needed that powerful chip that would allow them to run any program without problems.
However, today, the difference is already small, but it will be even less next year, where The M5 chip will make an Air as powerful as any Prosince, although they will make this somewhat better, it will not be necessary for 99% of users, since even the worst of the M5 will achieve exceptional performance in any situation.
Will the MacBook Air and Pro be unified?
It is true that we can continue to distinguish an Air from a Pro by its design, being lighter, with fewer ports, and even with more basic features that keep its price reduced compared to its older brother, however, the key point was its performance, something we will barely see in 2025.
One of the new features of this year, and which is already taking us down that path, are the Mac Mini, which, except for one version, have the M4 standard processormore than enough to even play the latest titles they have released this year, and even that we can use for a future GTA VI, which leads the majority to opt for this one, without paying more for a Pro, which although It will always be better, it will barely be noticeable in terms of performance and daily use.
That is why we can think of Apple considering unifying the MacBook, with a single name, without differentiating between one and the other, and offering us a “Pro”, for an intermediate price between the Air and this one, with all the possible power that develop the brand, although it is true that there will always be those who prefer a model without ports and much lighter.
2025 may be soon, and eliminating both models for a common one may be hasty, however, it is the path they are taking, since the difference, as we said, between them, is smaller every year, and the Pros are losing many sales in favor of the Air, who with 16 GB of RAM and an M4 for just over 1,000 euros They will be the option chosen by many in 2025, and one of the reasons why this model has not yet been released, to try not to cover the sales that the Pro could have, being the only one with M4 for now.
