For some time, we have been discussing an idea that was on the minds of many people, including Apple workers, and that is the incorporation of Face ID on Macsa system that, at least for iPhone, is currently very economical, and above all, safe.

However, it seems that Apple is not up for it, despite the fact that, as we said, it is very easy to install, and cheap, since it would not increase the price of computers too much. Today we will see what we know so far, and if they will ever have it or not.

A MacBook with Face ID and without Touch ID?

For some time now there has been talk that Apple plans to bring Face ID to Macsbut according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, that's still far from becoming a reality. Although the idea sounds logical (especially considering how well Face ID works on the iPhone and iPad), Apple doesn't seem to be in a rush to integrate it into its MacBooks.

Gurman comments that the company has thought about taking that step, but that the plans are saved for several years. In the past it had already been said that it would reach the iMac with the M1 chip or in future versions, but none of that happened. Even in 2022 it was mentioned that Apple was working on it, although without a specific date. It is a project that exists, but does not seem to have priority in the short term.

The simplest explanation comes from Apple itself: Touch ID continues to be more practical in the day to day. Since most users have their hands on the keyboard, unlocking with the fingerprint is quick and convenient. Tom Boger, vice president of product marketing, even said that this was the reason why they did not see it necessary to include Face ID for now, since we even pay attention to an iPhone, but on many occasions we would have to look at a computer screen specifically to unlock.

Touch ID for Mac with Apple Silicon

Still, there are those who think that Apple could change its mind when it launches a Mac with a touch screen, something that is rumored to be between 2026 and 2027. In that scenario, it would make more sense for Face ID to arrive to complement an experience more similar to that of the iPad or iPhone. But until that happens, we will most likely continue to depend on the fingerprint reader.

In summary, Face ID on Macs It is still a dream that will take time to come true. Apple does not rule it out, but it does not seem to be in a hurry either. For now, the fingerprint continues to reign in the Mac ecosystem. In my opinion, it is something interesting, above all, for security, since Apple itself has shown that it is much more effective and with fewer risks to use Face ID than the fingerprint itself, but it seems that, in this case, convenience takes precedence.

And you, do you think it would be good to include it? Would you leave both systems so that the user can choose? Leave us a comment with your opinion about it. In my case, you already know it.
