What is After Inc?

Set years after a devastating zombie outbreak, After Inc transports players to a world where green has reclaimed the land, but shadows of the past linger with the undead. The game merges 4X strategy with city-building mechanics, giving players a new backdrop to rebuild civilization.

Starting from virtually nothing, your mission is to gather resources like water, food, and materials, while expanding your base through exploration and technological research. The core gameplay revolves around this delicate balance between survival and community management. Every decision has an impact on the happiness of your settlers; too much discontent and they will abandon your colony, which could lead to your downfall.

After Inc is designed entirely for our mobiles. Clear and colorful, the interface provides instant feedback on the status of your colony. With gaming sessions lasting 15-20 minutes, it’s perfectly suited to those looking for a strategic game to play on the go. And so as not to get bored, there are five unique leaders, each offering different abilities, and gameplay influenced by your choices, each part can offer a new story.

Here are the key mechanics of the game:

• Decision Making: Make difficult choices like balancing the luxury of having children with the scarcity of resources or deciding whether pets are companions or emergency rations. Your style of governance – democracy or authoritarianism – shapes the future of your community.
• Exploration and Resource Management: The game world, a reimagined United Kingdom, is beautiful but perilous. Players must search the ruins for resources while battling zombie threats.
• Colony Growth: From simple housing to complex facilities like farms and sawmills, you grow your colony, keeping your population happy and productive.

Not to spoil anything, the game is well made (for a cartographic interface) and very realistic since it is based on “real life studies” noted with humor to simulate the behavior of zombies, adding a layer of authenticity.

We also find the possibility of playing offline and the absence of microtransactions. Enough to fully justify the two small euros requested.

Our opinion on After Inc

Available for a few weeks, After Inc has been well received for its gameplay combining survival, strategy and construction, as well as its beautiful execution. Players praised the accessibility, the depth of its strategic elements, and the clever shift from destruction to creation.

Having finally been able to test the latest from Ndemic Creations, I can tell you that it is a breath of fresh air for all fans of the genre. After Inc masterfully captures the essence of rebuilding not only structures but also hope, providing players with a sense of accomplishment as they see their colony grow and prosper. The decision-making aspect adds a layer of moral complexity, making each session a unique narrative experience.

We simply regret the lack of French translation as well as the €10 DLC for season 1. Without it, the lifespan is short for seasoned players.

While there is some learning curve to fully grasp the nuances of resource and threat management, it’s just fun. If you liked Plague Inc, go for it, it will make you forget Rebel Inc.
