AirPods Max 2: not in the program

On September 9, Apple unveiled a revamped version of its first generation AirPods Max. In addition to the new colors and personalized spatial audio, the main novelty of this model lies in the connectivity, with the replacement of the Lightning port with a USB-C port.

A way to standardize its range now that the Lightning port is banned in the EU. This announcement disappointed many customers who were hoping for a truly new version. Unfortunately, Apple apparently has no plans to embark on the development of the second generation AirPods Max.

According to Mark GurmanApple has no significant plans to improve AirPods Max after the introduction of the USB-C model in 2024. The brand is satisfied with the current market, which is neither exceptional nor catastrophic. The observation is simple: sales are not high enough to justify the development of a new model in the near future, but they are satisfactory enough to maintain the current range.

After more than four years on the market, AirPods Max are starting to lag behind technologically. Several improvements could justify the release of the AirPods Max 2 without even needing to modify their design: the integration of the new H2 chip in the AirPods 4, better battery life, more efficient active noise reduction, the hearing test functionality AirPods Pro 2, as well as a new storage/charging pouch. These improvements would bring significant benefits to users while maintaining the popular aesthetic of the current AirPods Max.
