We sometimes forget it, but Elon Musk is also in the race for artificial intelligence. Indeed, the boss of Tesla has created an artificial intelligence laboratory called xAI and this laboratory already offers a competitor to ChatGPT and Gemini called Grok which is currently offered on the social network to this AI model, it’s because Grok is reserved for paying users of the old Twitter.
But apparently, the social network’s commercial strategy is about to change, since it is now considering offering Grok to users of the free version. No official announcement has yet been made on this subject, but according to a publication by TechCrunch, this weekend, researchers reported a test of X which consists of offering free access to Grok to users who do not have X Premium subscription. Furthermore, the media would also have been able to confirm that a test is underway in New Zealand.
For the moment, caution remains in order. But it’s also important to note that even if X rolls out Grok to free users, users who don’t have an X Premium subscription will likely have to make do with limited use of this artificial intelligence. According to TechCrunch, free users would be limited to 10 requests per hour with the Grok-2 model, 20 requests every two hours with Grok-2 mini and three image generations per day.
xAI: a valuation that would increase to $40 billion
At the end of October, rumors circulated about a possible fundraising of xAI. According to Wall Street Journal sources (via Reuters), discussions are underway for a multi-billion dollar fundraising that would bring xAI’s valuation to $40 billion. Reuters also points out that the current valuation of xAI would be $24 billion, following a $6 billion raise in May.
Otherwise, remember that in October, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, raised more than 6 billion dollars. And this operation would have brought its valuation to 157 billion dollars.
