Today, LinkedIn has almost a billion users. It is therefore undoubtedly the favorite social network of professionals. You can promote your professional activity and develop your network. But since its launch in 2003, LinkedIn has evolved a lot.

Indeed, in recent years, the personal sphere has been creeping more and more into this professional social network. Users no longer necessarily stop at the “professional” label of the social network and many see it as a flirting tool like any other. Others have become true influencers and other content creators, not hesitating to connect events in their personal lives with professional skills and life lessons. In general, LinkedIn influencers always have the right anecdote to highlight how they earn an incredible turnover, specifying that this could be the case for you if you listen to them (and pay for their training).

For some time now, a new type of influencer has appeared on LinkedIn. Far from promising a staggering turnover, they fight against bosses and toxic work environments. This is the case of Stefanie Costi.

Denouncing toxic bosses on LinkedIn, more effective than HR?

For a long time, Stefanie Costi worked as a family law lawyer in Australia. We can say that she knows conflict situations well. But outside of her files, Stefanie had to deal with a particularly harmful work environment with toxic managers. Humiliated, despised, belittled, she ended up leaving her law firm after trying to alert human resources.

Looking for a new professional adventure, the young woman took to LinkedIn. When she shared her experience, she realized she was far from alone. The publication in which she recounts her story in this toxic law firm received more than a million views, obtained more than 10,000 reactions, more than 1,500 comments from employees sharing their own story and around a hundred similar testimonies in private messages.

This sharing of experience allowed Stefanie Costi to gain popularity on the social network. Now nicknamed “the anti-harassment advocate,” she is followed by more than 83,000 people on LinkedIn and strives to free the voice for healthy work environments. In this sense, she has participated in several TEDx conferences and runs the startup The Rising Heard, which provides legal advice and coaching to victims of toxic environments in a professional setting.

Stefanie Costi, like other employees, points the finger at the efficiency of human resources, accusing them of working in the interests of the company. Thus, many professionals choose to abandon traditional procedures, which are long and ineffective, in favor of denouncing abusive behavior directly on the Internet, and more precisely on LinkedIn. This reminds us of resignation out of revenge, a growing trend where an employee chooses to loudly express their discontent. Which harms the image of the company and the internal atmosphere…
