Apple is expected to unveil an update to Final Cut Pro during Final Cut Pro Creative Summit of this week. Organized each year in collaboration with Apple, the event is planned at Apple Park, where participants will get a first look at the new features already mentioned in Apple’s recent announcements. Indeed, during the presentation of the Mac M4s, the firm mentioned its professional video editing software.
Final Cut Pro 11 coming soon?
The anticipated Final Cut Pro update, initially announced during the Mac mini M4 reveal, will introduce four notable new features:
- Spatial video editing : Announced alongside visionOS 2, this update will allow users to edit spatial videos captured with compatible devices like the iPhone 15 Pro, all iPhone 16 models, and Canon’s EOS R7 camera with a new space objective. These 3D videos are specially designed for Apple’s Vision Pro headset.
- AI-generated effects : Update adds immersive titles and AI-driven effects. Initially previewed in visionOS 2, these features could include Apple Intelligence branding, although this has not been confirmed.
- Automatic subtitles : Built-in automatic captions, powered by AI, will eliminate the need for plugins and meet the growing demand for text overlays on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram Reels.
- “Magnetic Mask” tool : Shown briefly in the Mac mini video, this new tool could allow users to isolate and manipulate objects in the foreground, like MotionVFX’s mRotoAI and DaVinci Resolve’s Magic Mask.
Some of these updates could extend to Final Cut Pro on iPad, with potential updates to companion apps like Compressor and Motion for Mac, and Final Cut Camera for iPhone. Apple also mentioned 4K video editing at 120 fps.
Final Cut Pro received one last feature update in June with version 10.8, but it’s unclear if this update will mark the arrival of Final Cut Pro 11, a long-awaited major release. The Mac version of Final Cut Pro retails for €350, while the iPad version follows a subscription model of €5 per month or €50 per year.
