After years of criticism and repeated user requests, Apple appears to be working on a complete redesign of the Magic Mouse. According to Mark Gurman, a renowned Bloomberg journalist, the company is developing an updated model that not only modernizes the design, but also addresses the well-known problem of charging port location.

Gurman has revealed that this redesign will include significant improvements, with a more focused focus on ergonomics and solving the biggest flaw of this accessory: the location of the charging port.

Solution to the Magic Mouse charging port

Although the current Magic Mouse 2 has had a USB-C port for a few months, it is still located at the bottom, which prevents the device from being used while chargingsomething that has been the subject of constant ridicule and criticism from users, who consider that it is an impractical design and that Apple has not yet wanted to solve.

The Magic Mouse has essentially maintained the same design since its launch. arrival in 2009with small adjustments over the years, such as the addition of a rechargeable battery in 2015, new colors to match the iMac in 2021, and the move from Lightning to USB-C this year. However, its appearance and basic functionality have not evolved significantly, which is why many consider it outdated.

Apple would be looking to change this narrative with a redesign that Gurman describes as “more relevant to the modern era.” Although no specific details have been shared about what this new design will look like, statements suggest that the focus will be on improving comfort and user experience. This could involve building a more ergonomic mouseinspired by models such as the popular Logitech MX Master 3S, which has a curved design, a thumb rest, dual scroll wheels and a front charging port, so the Magic Mouse would stop being so flat.

In addition to these physical improvements, Apple will also likely keep the multi-touch features that the Magic Mouse is known for, but could optimize them for more intuitive control.

Despite these exciting developments, the new Magic Mouse is not expected to hit the market anytime soon. According to Gurman, this accessory would still be in the early stages of development and will not see the light of day until at least 2026.

As for the price, there is no information about it yet. The current model costs 99 euros in Spain and is included for free with the purchase of an iMac or Mac Pro. However, given Apple’s history with products that have undergone a major redesign, it wouldn’t be crazy to see a slight increase in price.

Although it is not a mouse that is comfortable for all users, its minimalist and compact design has delighted many people over the years, but nevertheless, the location of its charging port and its practically zero ergonomics have been the main objectives of criticism. Tim Cook’s guys seem to want to put an end to this.
