Although it does not yet offer a folding iPhone or iPad, Apple is secretly working on products with foldable screens. And recently, journalist Mark Gurman, from Bloomberg, which is one of the most reliable sources of unofficial information on Apple, published a new article on the firm’s plans. According to this, the Apple brand could develop a “giant iPad” with a foldable screen.
A 20-inch foldable screen?
More specifically, it would be a product that, when opened, would have a gigantic 20-inch screen. Closed, it would look like two iPad Pros stacked. And apparently, this product could be offered as an alternative to computers, since Apple would integrate both elements of the iPad and elements of Macs. However, the operating system could still be iPadOS or a variant.
Otherwise, in addition to having XXL dimensions, the foldable screen might also not have traces of creases. At least that would be the goal of Apple, which would like to launch this new device in 2028. Currently, all products with a foldable screen still have this trace in the middle. But, as usual, caution remains in order, since this is unofficial information. In any case, Mark Gurman’s article is reminiscent of another rumor which recently indicated that Apple could launch a screen with an 18.8-inch foldable screen between 2028 and 2030.
The PC of the future?
At the moment, PCs with foldable screens are still rare, but they already exist. And among the models available on the market, there is the Zenbook Fold OLED, a 4,000 euro computer that we had the opportunity to test in 2022. However, this machine is a little smaller than the giant iPad mentioned in Mark Gurman’s article, since its screen is only 17.3 inches. In any case, it’s a pretty interesting form factor, which can redefine the way we work when we’re on the move.
