After years in which Apple limited the number of external screens to which you could connect your MacBook Air with the open cover, the company has finally left this limitation behind: now you can connect up to two external monitors with the open computer cover.

Connect several screens to the MacBook Air

Until now, models with M1 and M2 chips only admitted an external screen officially. Even the Macbook Air with M3 Chip, launched in 2023, only allowed two monitors if used with the closed lid, forced users to renounce the integrated portable screen. This was a problem for those who needed a multiple screens configuration without sacrificing the comfort of the open MacBook Air.

With this new update, Apple has finally given users what they had been asking for years. According to the technical specifications of the new 13 and 15 -inch MacBook Air, the device is capable of managing up to three screens at the same time: The laptop itself and two external monitors with resolution of up to 6K at 60 Hz.

This change not only improves the work experience of those who use the MacBook Air in professional environments, but also expands the possibilities for students, designers and content creators who need more space on screen without having to resort to external solutions. Until now, some users had found ways to connect several screens using DisplayLink adapters, but this required additional software, since Apple did not allow it natively. With this new compatibility that they have implemented, the process will be as simple as connecting the monitors and starting working.

The Macbook Air approaches the Pro range

The support for multiple screens with the open lid is not an absolute novelty within Apple. The 14 -inch macbook Pro with M4 chip, launched last year, already offered this possibility. However, the Macbook Air is the most popular laptop of the company and this change will affect a greater number of users, consolidating it as an even more versatile option within the Apple ecosystem. In this way, the distance between the Air and the Pro range is reduced considerably.

The new Macbook Air is now available for reserve and the next March 12. With this update, Apple has eliminated one of the few limitations that continued to drag its ultralight laptop, offering users a more flexible experience without compromising the design or portability that have turned the MacBook Air into a sales success. Now, it remains to be seen if they also decide to leave behind another of the problems that have to do with this functionality: the MacBook cannot be connected to a monitor with the closed cover if the device is not connected to the current.
