The fact that Apple is forced to open up app distribution in the European Union is a huge relief for Epic Games. The company behind the popular Fortnite game has just announced the launch of Fortnite on the Epic Games Store on iPads, a second victory after a triumphant return on iPhone!
Fortnite is back on iPad
After a long absence due to a ban on the App Store, Fortnite, along with other games published by Epic Games, is back on iPad. However, this return is not via Apple’s App Store, but through the Epic Games Store, now available on iPadOS for users in the European Union.
This big comeback of the famous battle royale is possible thanks to the Digital Markets Act (DMA) adopted by the European Union, which requires giants like Apple to open the distribution of applications and therefore break the exclusivity of their own store. It is this regulation that allows Epic Games to offer its own store on iOS and iPadOS, making games like Fortnite accessible again.
Since early July, the Epic Games Store for iOS has received Apple’s approval, and three games are currently available on it: Fall Guys, Rocket League, and Fortnite. To install Fortnite, users must download the Epic Games Store directly from their iPhone or iPad.
The process is simple: just go to the Epic Games website from your device and you will find a link to download the Epic Games Store. After installation, you will need to accept several permissions in the settings of your iPhone or iPad, in accordance with Apple’s requirements for downloads outside of its App Store.
