We’ve long been accustomed to using certain free software solutions to manage and play our multimedia content. One of the most popular is Plex, which now appears to be undergoing a radical change in its subscriptions.
This is a program used worldwide to play video content, both via streaming and locally. It provides a number of tools and features to make things easier, even in video server mode. We can access movies and series online, or play files we have saved on different storage devices.
One of its main advantages is that it allows us to access our own video content from any location and device that has Plex installed with our corresponding account. As expected, until now we had the possibility of accessing these own videos completely free through the aforementioned application, but things are about to change radically. Its developers have changed the program’s policy, and from now on we will have to pay for everything.
Basically, this means we’ll have to pay for the Plex Pass subscription to access our videos from anywhere. We’ll also have the option to use a new subscription they’ve just launched, but that too at a paid rate. Needless to say, this change within the media center has sparked a multitude of criticisms from the app’s regular users. We must keep in mind that the Plex community isn’t exactly small.
When will we have to pay to use Plex?
It’s important to know that the media center’s top management has made the announcement now; however, the changes, and therefore the date at which we’ll have to start paying for the program, have not yet taken effect. This means that to remotely access and play our content in the form of movies and series starting April 29th, we’ll have to start paying.
You already know that until now, this access was completely free. We now have the ability to access our videos, regardless of where they were stored, at no cost. And the worst of all is not over, as more changes are coming that will negatively affect our wallets. Here we’re referring to the decision to raise the prices of the Plex Pass subscription .
Many of you may already know that we had the option of paying for a lifetime subscription to this model for €119.99. Well, if we were considering making this payment, we should act now. Plex Pass, with this lifetime subscription, will soon increase in price and cost more than double , reaching €249.99. It’s worth noting that this increase will also affect monthly or annual payments for this model.
Finally, we’ll tell you that at the same time they’ve launched a new subscription called Remote Watch Pass, useful for those who want to access remote streaming without paying for all the Plex Pass features. This subscription will cost €1.99 per month or €19.99 per year; something that was previously free.
