To the dismay of many users around the world, the end of support for Windows 10 is getting closer. This is something that will happen next October, so some should start preparing for it.

In case you haven’t heard by now, starting that date, this version of Microsoft’s operating system will no longer receive security and other updates, at least not for free. This means that Windows 10 will become an obsolete as well as vulnerable operating system, which could be a serious drawback. The software giant has long encouraged its hundreds of millions of customers to upgrade to Windows 11, although it doesn’t seem to have the desired results initially.

And many of these users refuse to install the latest version of the software for various reasons. First, because they’re very happy with Windows 10, and second because Windows 11 has some serious drawbacks. Starting with its user interface, moving on to some changes that almost no one has liked, and placing special emphasis on the required hardware requirements.

Well, if you’re still using the older version of the operating system we mentioned, you’ll likely receive an email from Microsoft itself. Basically, the main purpose of this email is to inform us that the end-of-life deadline for Windows 10 is approaching , and in many cases, it urges us to upgrade to Windows 11.

Microsoft urges you to buy another PC to use Windows 11

However, unfortunately for many, we may also find ourselves in a situation where this email informs us that our computer is not compatible with what the company considers to be the latest and greatest Microsoft operating system.

Thus, in the body of the same message we received, we found a series of links to check whether we can update or whether we will be forced to buy a new computer. As you can imagine, and some of you will be experiencing firsthand, not everyone is able to purchase a new computer to use Windows 11. This is another of the main reasons why the new version of the system is causing so much rejection globally.

Windows 10 support

What’s more, in some cases, we may even have a newer-generation computer that isn’t compatible with this version of the system. Although the email we’re about to receive encourages us to install Windows 11 , it also helps us check if our computer is compatible with that version. Not only that, but it also features a FAQ section that attempts to answer all the important questions related to the retirement of Windows 10.

Here, it clarifies that this will occur on October 14, 2025 , which includes the end of all Microsoft technical support. What’s striking about this article is that it makes it clear that all free technical support will be discontinued as of that date, but it doesn’t offer paid alternatives, which do, in fact, exist. This means there’s no reference to paid extended support, or ESU.

This is undoubtedly a company strategy to get us to upgrade to the new version of the system, although it seems to have little faith in end users paying for extended support . Hence, they’re encouraging them to buy a new computer if they don’t have a compatible device, which almost no one will like.
