Google has overhauled its “Switch to Android” app for iPhone and iPad, renaming it “Android Switch” and giving it a refreshed interface, new icon and simplified design. This update is part of an effort to make the switch from an iPhone to an Android device, such as the latest Google Pixel 9, more attractive. Not sure if this will be enough to make the majority of customers succumb Apple.

Apart from the embedding, the app still offers the same features to facilitate the transfer of contacts, calendar events, photos and videos from iPhone to Android device. It also reminds users to turn off iMessage and switch to RCS/SMS to ensure messaging compatibility.

Google has updated the wording on its website “Switch to Android” to align it with the rebranding. The site answers the most common questions from iPhone users considering switching to Android, including texting, file sharing, video calling and the adaptation of existing accessories Suffice it to say that only recent iPhones with a USB-C port can share wired accessories, the rest being limited to Bluetooth devices.

Google takes the opportunity to point out that RCS allows SMS to be sent seamlessly between Android and iPhone users and offers Google Meet as an alternative to FaceTime. While there’s no direct replacement for AirDrop, Google is highlighting its Quick Share feature, which allows files to be shared between Android, ChromeOS, and Windows PC devices.

As for the applications to transfer, you will have to do it manually by searching for them on the Play Store. But who needs this app here 😅? In the other direction, Apple also offers Move to iOS.
