LG’s latest OLED gaming monitor, the UltraGear 27GX790A (or GX7), is now available for pre-order on the manufacturer’s US site, offering one of the fastest refresh rates around. Priced at $999.99, it features a 480Hz panel, with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and an impressive response time of 0.03ms.
A 480 Hz screen for gamers
The 120 Hz screen of the iPhone Pro, iPad Pro and MacBook Pro can be upgraded, LG is no longer satisfied with 240 Hz for its “gaming” monitors, but has just gone to 480 Hz. All at a great price. This is better than its first 480 Hz monitor which was satisfied with a Full HD resolution (compared to 2K for the GX7).
In comparison, the GX7 matches the base specs of Sony’s $1,100 InZone M10S, making it a slightly more affordable option, although it lacks some advanced performance modes and variable refresh rate features found in the Sony model.
Although the monitor is available for pre-order on the LG official US websitethere is no launch date and it is not yet visible on the French site of the Korean giant.
Technically speaking, the GX7 supports Nvidia’s G-Sync and AMD’s FreeSync technologies, ensuring smooth gameplay by reducing screen tearing and stuttering. It also benefits from a DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification, providing superior color accuracy and contrast, and has an “anti-glare and low reflection” coating for better visibility in good light conditions.
The main characteristics:
- Ultra-fast refresh rate of up to 480 Hz and 0.03 ms response time for smooth gameplay
- OLED technology delivers vivid colors, true blacks and a 1.5M:1 contrast ratio
- DisplayPort 2.1 for high bandwidth, ensuring smooth motion at peak refresh rates¹
- Built-in FreeSync™ Premium Pro and G-Sync® compatibility for tear-free gaming
- Borderless design with customizable RGB lighting and adjustable stand for custom configurations
Connectivity options also include HDMI 2.1, USB 3.0 and a headphone jack. The monitor stand allows for 15 degrees of tilt and 30 degrees of rotation, improving user comfort and screen positioning.
In short, an excellent product for gamers, which would go very well with the latest Mac M4s like our favorite, the Mac mini M4.
