At 51, Larry Page is an important figure in Silicon Valley. The entrepreneur is best known for co-founding Google in 1998 with Sergey Brin. We know the rest, the search engine and its famous algorithm took the Internet to a new level, and transformed this company into a global Tech giant. Even if he is relatively discreet, the words of this leader are closely scrutinized and often considered inspiring.
“Make the world lazier”
This is the case of his speech during a graduation ceremony in 2009 at the University of Michigan. The latter encouraged students to find technological solutions aimed at making the world lazier. This statement deserves an explanation.
Clearly, Larry Page indicates that he had many ideas when he was at Stanford University. An advisor then suggested to him: “Why don’t you work on the web for a while?” In fact, this innovation was booming for a simple reason: “Technology, especially the internet, can really help you be lazy”.
The entrepreneur specifies:
A group of three people can write software that millions of people can use and enjoy. Can three people answer the phone a million times? (…) Find leverage in the world, so you can be lazier.
And the one whose fortune weighs more than 100 billion dollars concludes:
Overall, I know it seems like the world is falling apart, but it’s actually a great time in your life to go a little crazy, follow your curiosity, and be ambitious. Don’t give up on your dreams. The world needs you all!
Jeff Bezos’ shocking sentence
As a reminder, great leaders are often asked to provide management advice. On the subject, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, made some rather radical remarks: “I asked everyone here to wake up terrified every morning, sheets drenched in sweat”. It’s not about sweating for fear of competition “but from our customers, because it is with them that we maintain relationships. They are the ones who pay us”.
He adds: “I believe our customers are loyal to us until someone else offers them better service”. You can find the words of this big boss in our previous article here.
