It’s a bit of a tradition. A new year means an increase in Paris metro tickets and the Passe Navigo. To the great dismay of Ile-de-France users. In reality, if the Navigo Pass is indeed undergoing an increase from which it is already too late to escape, the pricing of single tickets is completely revised.
From January 1, 2025, there will only be a single ticket, valid regardless of the destination. Enough to forget zones 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 which can easily confuse tourists. While a single ticket is currently sold at 2.15 euros (or 1.74 euros if you take a book of 10), the new prices are as follows: 2.50 euros for the metro and the RER and 2 euros for the bus and the tram.
Fortunately, there is still time to stock up so as not to have any unpleasant surprises at the start of the year if you use single transport tickets. We’ll explain it to you.
Stock up before the Paris metro ticket price increases
You have until December 31, 2024 to purchase T+ tickets before the price increase. These will be valid for one year. To do this, you can go to an RATP terminal, but not only that.
On your smartphone, whether you have an Android phone or an iPhone, it is possible to refuel on the IDF Mobilités application. It is in your best interest to buy up to two books of 10 tickets at the same time, if you come to Paris often and want to have peace of mind. In total, it is possible to have up to 30 tickets on a single account. iPhone owners can have multiple passes from Apple Maps
If you don’t want to have your transport tickets on your smartphone, that’s understandable. To make your life easier, opt for the Navigo Easy card (2 euros), which allows you to load your tickets directly onto it.
With this tip, you can save some money and delay the deadline. Unfortunately, you will have to go there sooner or later.
Another possibility? Choose a Liberté+ package. This allows you to pay for your metro and RER tickets at 1.99 euros and bus and tram tickets at 1.60 euros. You must provide your IBAN so that you can be charged at the end of the month for your actual consumption. You validate every time you take public transport, regardless of the area. Then, Île-de-France Mobilités sends you the precise invoice at the end of each month. This may be more relevant depending on your whereabouts. For the moment, you cannot subscribe to it on your smartphone, you must go to an agency or on the website.
