How does it work?
Concretely, this tool will be launched ” Soon “ all over the world. The web giant wants to allow you to reboot the recommendations “in just a few clicks”. He specifies: “We want to make sure everyone on Instagram – especially teens – has safe, positive, age-appropriate experiences and that their time on Instagram is beneficial.”.
All you have to do is click on the “reset suggested content” option in the “content preferences” tab. You will be able to unsubscribe from certain accounts whose publications are often presented, but which do not suit you. Important clarification: Instagram does not in any way intend to give you control back and specifies that the recommendations “will start to be personalized again over time”.
Meta under pressure
If the platform acts this way, it is also because pressure is mounting at the international level. The European Union has adopted the Digital Services Act which imposes new constraints at the algorithmic level.
The same is true in the United Kingdom, where new legislation will come into force. The British media and Internet regulator, Ofcom, has also warned : “When UK online safety laws come into full force, the biggest sites and apps will need to give people more control over what they see”.
Finally, Australia has decided to completely ban social networks for under 16s. A radical measure which has clearly not escaped the firm led by Mark Zuckerberg.

We understand that parents are concerned about their children seeing adult or inappropriate content online. That’s why we’ve implemented stricter rules around the type of content children can see on our apps. In addition to completely removing content that violates our policies, we take steps to prevent teens from seeing sensitive or mature content. We avoid recommending them and, in some cases, hide them completely from teens, even if they are shared by someone they follow.
