The Mail application in iOS 18.2 gets a makeover with a modernized interface reminiscent of Gmail. If this new interface is not officially available in our region, there is a very simple method to obtain it. Here’s how to take advantage of it now in Europe, even if not all features are available yet.
How to activate the new Mail interface
First of all, you need an iPhone compatible with Apple Intelligence to have the new interface. Therefore, only the iPhone 15 Pro/max, 16 and 16 Pro/Max are compatible with the redesigned Mail app.
To access the new interface, simply:
- Open the Settings app
- Scroll down to “Mail” in the Apps list
- Select “Language“
- Choose “English”
- Relaunch the Mail app
After this very short manipulation, you will be able to discover the new interface of Apple’s Mail app. Everything is currently in English, but that doesn’t hinder usage.
What changes in the new interface
The application now offers categorization of emails into several sections:
- Main: for important messages
- Transactions: purchases and order confirmations
- Updates: newsletters and notifications
- Promotions: marketing emails and good deals
The design has also been refreshed with larger profile photos and better distinction between new and old emails. Not all profile photos are available yet but will be soon as senders meet the BIMI standard (more details on the Apple support site). Finally, intelligent sorting of emails is very basic and cluttered to the extent that it requires Apple Intelligence, which is why the new interface is only available in English.
Current limitations in Europe
It is important to note that while the interface is accessible, Apple Intelligence features are not yet available in Europe and will be available in April. Intelligent sorting of emails requires this technology and will therefore only be functional when it is deployed on the old continent, probably in 2025. For the moment, the change is mainly aesthetic but already allows you to benefit from a more modern and effective Mail application. better organized
