According to several user forums on Reddit, Apple Support, and MacRumors, the Mail app is experiencing issues with navigation, with users reporting notable issues such as not being able to view their emails and then stopping responding after a while, causing it to have to close repeatedly. The only downside to this bug is that it’s only present on iPhones running iOS 18.5, regardless of the model. This is curious considering the latest version was released almost a month ago.
The Mail app has an obvious flaw, Apple still hasn’t figured it out.
Mail’s behavior worsens when it displays a blank screen that prevents you from browsing the app. It’s as if it doesn’t exist after a few minutes of use, which has been annoying for users in recent days. The only temporary solution to this problem has been to restart the iPhone, a long-standing and reliable solution that can alleviate any glitches.
This problem is compounded by the fact that Apple has no record of the situation, despite having been notified via email. The system status page doesn’t report any issues. In the case of the Apple user forum, registered on an iPhone 15, the user is upset because it’s a device used for business, so it’s key to keep both the iPhone and the apps on it in optimal condition. Another user recommended deleting and reinstalling the app, although the minor issue is that he had to do it five times. In other cases, the situation worsens as it stops working without a solution.
The MacRumors forum concluded that the common factor in all the problems is iOS 18.5. Different problems are cited, but the root cause is the same: Mail doesn’t work after being up and running for a while, and eventually crashes. No matter how many times you restart or uninstall the app, there’s no lasting solution. This comes after numerous implementations and changes to the app.
What to do about the Mail app error on iOS 18.5
Apple has obviously stopped signing older versions of iOS, so going back isn’t an option. There are no active beta versions at the time of this article, so installing one that might resolve the issue isn’t possible.
We’ll be monitoring this issue until Apple releases some kind of statement and subsequently a software update that could correct this problem, just ahead of the next WWDC. Don’t hesitate to restart your iPhone if you’re experiencing this problem. For now, try third-party options like Spark or log in directly to your email’s original website.
