Good news for anyone who has already had their iPhone repaired or is considering having it repaired! With iOS 18, Apple will be integrating a new tool called “Repair Assistant”. Its role: to help users configure original replacement parts after a repair, to ensure that the iPhone works perfectly.
Compatibility and Features
Repair Assistant will be compatible with iPhone 12 and later models. It can be used to configure many components like the display, battery, or camera.
Concretely, if you have your iPhone screen replaced, the assistant will check that functions like True Tone or automatic brightness are operational. For the battery, it will ensure that the battery indicator correctly reports the data of the new component.
Practical even for previous repairs
The nice surprise is that this tool will also work for parts installed before the release of iOS 18. So if you have had your iPhone repaired recently, you will still be able to benefit from this new feature.
Better yet, if you replaced your battery with an original Apple battery but at a third-party repairer, you can configure it as a genuine Apple part using the Repair Assistant. Convenient for regaining all the features!
Access via Settings
After installing iOS 18, you will find the Repair Assistant in Settings, “About” section, “Parts and services” section. Obviously, this section will only appear if you have parts that can be configured, so after a repair.

This new feature is part of Apple’s desire to better regulate iPhone repairs, as demonstrated by the launch of its Self Service Repair program earlier this year. Moreover, the activation lock will also be extended to iPhone components to prevent theft and dismantling.
