Among the most notable promises is a Siri more conversational and advances that will test the limits of older iPhones.
A smarter Siri, but with delays
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, iOS 19 will take Siri to a new level thanks to the implementation of more advanced language models. This change aims to ensure that Siri is able to respond to more complex requestsapproaching the functionality of assistants like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
However, although this improved version of Siri will be announced alongside iOS 19, it will not be available immediately. Gurman points out that its launch is scheduled for spring 2026as part of an update to iOS 19.4.
Meanwhile, iOS 18 continues to evolve with small improvements to Siri, such as integration with ChatGPT and future features related to Google’s Gemini model. Despite these advances, they will not reach the level of advanced conversation promised for iOS 19.
The development of iOS 19 has been affected by several delays, just as it happened and is still happening with iOS 18, as an unusual number of features have been postponed until version 19.4. According to Gurman, this is due to the attention that Apple engineers are still devoting to the evolution of iOS 18, which will continue to receive significant improvements in the coming months.
Although no specific details have been revealed about which features have been delayed, the information suggests that Apple is prioritizing the gradual rollout of features related to Apple Intelligence, which affects the development speed of iOS 19.
Compatible with the same iPhones as iOS 18
One of the most encouraging aspects of iOS 19 is its compatibility. The new operating system will be compatible with all models that currently support iOS 18.
The complete list includes:
- iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max
- iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
- iPhone XS, XS Max, XR
- iPhone SE (2nd generation or later)
This would translate into the second consecutive year in which Apple has not removed support for any iPhone model, in contrast to iOS 17, which left out the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X.
The first betas of iOS 19 are expected to be available to developers in June 2025, coinciding with the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference), which will be held around June 10, 2025. The official launch of the operating system, as is usual, would arrive in September along with new iPhone models.
Expectations regarding the new version of the operating system are growing, but users will have to wait until spring 2026 to enjoy a more advanced version of Siri. For now, expectations are high and Apple seems to be preparing a big leap for the future of its mobile operating system.
