While Apple Intelligence is the main new feature of the year, it was not available on compatible devices in September, when the firm deployed iOS 18. To take advantage of the iPhone’s first new AI features, we had to wait for the iOS 18.1 update, released in October. Furthermore, this does not yet concern the European Union, where Apple Intelligence is currently blocked.
In addition, instead of releasing all the new features at once, Apple is launching Apple Intelligence in a staggered manner. After launching the first AI features in October, it launched a new wave with the iOS 18.2 update that just arrived, which includes Image Playground, Genmoji, as well as ChatGPT integration with Siri. For other new Apple Intelligence features that have not yet been released, you will have to wait until 2025.
Unfortunately, in addition to the fact that Apple may frustrate its users, this staggered launch of Apple Intelligence could also affect the development of the next version of the operating system. In any case, this is what journalist Mark Gurman (Bloomberg) indicates, who is one of the most reliable sources regarding future Apple products.
iOS 19: features delayed because of iOS 18?
“I continue to hear that the gradual rollout of features between iOS 18 and iOS 18.4 is causing delays in the introduction of some features planned for iOS 19”indicates Mark Gurman, in a recent publication. Indeed, Apple engineers would still be stuck on the development of the missing iOS 18 new features, while they should already be focusing on the next update of the operating system.
For the moment, we have very few rumors about iOS 19, which will be released in 2025. But if Apple respects its traditions, this new version should be unveiled during the WWDC conference in June. Then, iOS 19 should be available in September. But according to Mark Gurman’s publication, it is possible that many new features will not be available from September.
