Apple will restore the systematic appearance of the volume slider on the iPhone’s locked screen with iOS 18.2. An option that will please customers who mourn his departure more than two years ago now. Here are the steps to activate it.
iOS 18.2 makes something new out of something old
Since the release of iOS 16 in September 2022, the slider dedicated to volume management is no longer present in the audio box of the locked screen on iPhone. Apple partially removed it, explaining that it took up more space than it was useful. It appears when it is an external audio track such as HomePod, Apple TV or AirPlay but disappears when the sound comes directly from the iPhone. We are talking here about the bubble that remains on the locked screen when you play an audio track on iPhone.
With iOS 18.2, Apple decides to leave the choice to the user. Still absent by default, a new option in the settings will allow it to be reintroduced at any time, as before. It’s always better when you give the customer the choice.
How to activate this new option in iPhone settings:
- Accessibility
- Audio and visual
- Always show volume control
If enabled, the volume slider will again be visible through all listening modes. At the time, some expressed their dissatisfaction following this deletion. For two years, the only ways to increase or decrease the volume on iPhone have been through the physical buttons on the edge, the control center or Siri.
iOS 18.2 is currently in beta. Its release is scheduled for the end of 2024. In the meantime, iOS 18.1 and its batch of new features arrive next week, at the same time as the announcement of the M4 Macs.
