Like every year, the Unicode Consortium, in charge of deciding what new emoji characters will come to our smartphones and other devices in the future, it has just announced what these new ones are characters that we will enjoy in iOS 19. Yes, there is still a little less than a year left to be able to use them in WhatsApp, iMessage and any of the messaging apps you use on your Apple phone.

Just a few hours ago, the eight new emoji characters were presented, including a furry creature that we assume will refer to Bigfoot or the fearsome snowman, a distorted face, a fighting cloud, an apple pit, an orca, a trombone , a mountain collapse and a treasure chest.

Come on, emojis that you’re probably looking forward to seeing on your iPhone and that you are going to use left and right.

These are the new emojis of iOS 19

Beyond supernatural monsters, fruits, musical instruments and what appears to be the classic comic book fighting symbol, we also have new representations of skin colors for some emojis.

The Unicode Consortium, as you can see above, has also published some images of what the emojis would look like. Be careful, at this point it is important to clarify that the Unicode Consortium only creates the code for emojis, and Apple designers will create their own version of each character with Apple’s style when the project is finalized. Unicode 17 standard. That’s why the emojis are not as we show them in these images, but they are much more similar to what you can see now when you use the keyboard of your iPhone.

And this is also why, even if they are approved sometime next fall, it will take Apple a while to implement the new characters and we might not see them until spring 2026 if Apple maintains its usual emoji release schedule, that is to say, with iOS 19 well established among our devices and the iPhone 17 (and who knows if the iPhone 17 Slim) giving war.

There’s still a while

Think that all these new iconsalthough they have already been shown, they should appear after in 2025, Apple presents the 16 Unicode characters that were approved a few months ago this same 2024 and that we told you about at the beginning of the year. These include a face with bags under the eyes, a fingerprint, a leafless tree, a tuber, a harp, a shovel, and a splash.

In fact, the new emojis that we have been able to see on our devices from the Cupertino firm came from the hand of the iOS 17.4 update which was launched in March 2024: a lime, an edible brown mushroom, a phoenix, a broken chain, the gesture of nodding the head, the same gesture, but to deny something, and little else.

Emojis 17.4

We may have reached a point where we truly more emojis are no longer necessary and the bubble of these characters is about to burst. Do you use more than 10 of the hundreds available on the iOS keyboard?
