Available for sale since yesterday morning, the iPad mini 7 clearly did not reveal all of its strong points during the presentation and tests. Indeed, Apple has integrated a new feature that was launched last month on the iPhone 16 range: wireless restoration.

iPad mini 7 can be restored wirelessly

Apple did not highlight it in the press release which presented the iPad mini 7 nor on its online support, but the iPad mini 7 has adopted a very practical new feature of the iPhone 16: wireless restoration. This technological advancement greatly simplifies recovery procedures in the event of a problem with the iPad.

Wireless restoration, recently introduced into the Apple ecosystem, makes the iPad mini 7 the second product after the iPhone 16 to benefit from this new generation technology. Thanks to iPadOS 18, the iPad mini 7 has a RecoveryOS partition, a key part of this process. This partition is identical to that of the iPhone 16, as pointed out by the media 9to5Mac.

This wireless restore allows the user to reset their iPad mini 7 with ease. If the device enters recovery mode, simply bring it closer to another iPhone or iPad running iOS 18/iPadOS 18 to automatically trigger the recovery process. A simple interaction between the two devices via a pop-up window guides the user through the reset, completely removing the need for a computer with a cable.

The RecoveryOS partition: a software innovation

Contrary to what one might imagine, the RecoveryOS partition is not directly integrated into the A18 chip of the iPad mini 7, but installed before the devices leave the factory. This approach separates hardware and software for managing restores, ensuring functionality is present from the moment the device is activated.

This move towards wireless restoration for the iPad mini 7 shows that Apple is committed to improving the user experience. No need to plug the device into a Mac or PC to reset it: just another compatible device nearby. If your entourage or work colleagues are all on an Android smartphone or tablet, you can always go to an Apple Store where compatible iPhones and iPads will be available for wireless restoration.
