As part of its environmental efforts, Apple has decided to remove the power adapter from the iPad mini 7 pack which was just announced this afternoon. The new iPad is far from being the only product to “suffer” from this Apple policy; other products have followed the same movement in recent years.
Planning to buy the iPad mini 7? Please note, you will also need to have a power adapter
From today, Apple customers can pre-order the new iPad mini 7, it is available at a price of €609 and goes up to €989 in the WiFi version. Whether for the cheapest or most expensive model, Apple has made the decision to remove one accessory from the box: the power adapter. If you were used to getting a new charger every time you unboxed an iPad, this time you’ll have to make do with the iPad and a USB-C cable.
If this is now commonplace for iPhones, Apple Watches and other products, it is less so for the iPad mini, because until the iPad mini 6, Apple had always offered a 20 W power adapter for allow customers to charge their iPad mini.
Several solutions will be available to you to recharge your iPad mini 7, either use the old power adapter from your old iPad (or Android tablet if you come from the dark side) or… buy a power adapter yourself.
Of course, the last point is particularly frustrating, because in addition to spending more than €600, having to add €25 in a power adapter is not very pleasant.
If you just pre-ordered the iPad mini 7 this afternoon from the Apple Online Store, also remember to buy a power adapter before receiving your new tablet. Apple currently offers its 20 W charger for €24.99 on Amazon.
