In September 2025, Apple will present its next range of iPhones: the iPhone 17. Among the models that will be announced, we will find an iPhone 17 Air, a model which will have the particularity of being extremely thin with a new design. If until today, there have been no major leaks about this future iPhone, analyst Jeff Pu has just revealed several juicy pieces of information in advance!
The iPhone 17 Air is promising
The first big rumors about the iPhone 17 Air are starting to emerge and it was Jeff Pu, analyst at investment bank Haitong International, who revealed the first serious details in a research note. We find several interesting information on the size of the screen, the chip that will be integrated inside or even the design that this new iPhone will offer like no other.
According to Pu, the iPhone 17 Air will be equipped with a 6.6-inch screen, it seems that this model will focus on an even more immersive visual experience, while remaining in an ultra-thin format. But the most interesting element lies in the integration of the A19 chip, this will be manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process, similar to that used for the A18 Pro chip in the current iPhone 16 Pro. However, it cannot be ruled out that TSMC could move more quickly than expected to 2nm engraving, it all depends on progress by the second quarter of 2025.
From 48 megapixels to the appointment
On the photography side, the iPhone 17 Air will only offer a single 48-megapixel rear camera, the model will focus on the quality rather than the quantity of sensors. The front camera, for its part, will have 24 megapixels, enough to offer ultra-detailed selfies and high-quality video calls.
In terms of security, Jeff Pu says that Apple will maintain the presence of Face ID, not a return to Touch ID. However, will Face ID still be in a Dynamic Island or under the screen? We know that Apple engineers are working to place the sensors necessary for Face ID to work under the screen, but this is a very complicated step forward, because the brightness of the screen disrupts the proper functioning of Face ID.
As for RAM, the iPhone 17 Air will have 8 GB of RAM dedicated entirely to Apple Intelligence. It’s not huge, but for Apple, with a nice optimization of iOS, it’s totally doable for a smooth and fast experience.
A replacement for the Plus model?
Although some rumors suggested that the iPhone 17 Air could slot between the Pro and Pro Max models, the reality seems different. According to Jeff Pu, this model is designed to replace the Plus model. This strategy would allow Apple to refocus its range, by offering a thin, high-performance device with a refined design. Speaking of design, the iPhone 17 Air will stand out from previous models, with an aluminum frame and a slimmer silhouette.
