We no longer know which Saint to devote ourselves to. Contrary to rumors from last week, leaker “Instant Digital” assures that the iPhone 17 Pro would not adopt a horizontal camera layout. In a message on Weibo, the leaker clarified that even if the back of the iPhone 17 Pro will undergo modifications, the layout of the camera will remain triangular, without moving to the “horizontal bar” introduced by the Google Pixel.
A worn design since 2019
Since the iPhone 11 introduced a square camera module to accommodate an additional ultrawide lens, Apple has not changed its sensor layout to ensure design consistency across subsequent models up to the iPhone 16 .
However, the design of the iPhone 17 Pro looks set to undergo some significant changes. Latest reports from The Information mentioned that the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will feature a “rectangular camera bump” constructed from aluminum, different from traditional 3D glass, with the bottom half still using glass for wireless charging compatibility. But then, who to believe? It’s hard to imagine Apple getting rid of an element that makes the current iPhone an iPhone.
For the record, Instant Digital has already been proven right several times, with accurate predictions about the yellow iPhone 14, the frosted back glass of the iPhone 15 models, minor updates to the Apple Watch Series 9, spatial video capabilities on the iPhone 15 Pro, landscape camera orientation for the latest iPads, the nano-texture screen of the iPad Pro M4 and the battery capacities of the iPhone 16 Pro. We can therefore take it seriously.
Apple certainly has better things to do than modify the aesthetics of the rear camera module, such as reducing the Dynamic Island, refining and lightening its phones, increasing autonomy, bringing 120 Hz to the entire range or even adding buttons to make a portable console.
