According to the latest reports that arrive from China, the Cupertino company has opted for a liquid metal alloyalso known as metallic glass or amorphous metal, to guarantee the durability of the folding mechanism.

The folding iPhone will be ultra -resistant

This decision is a significant advance with respect to the traditional hinges of folding devices, which are usually the weak point in terms of wear and fold formation on the screen.

The use of this material is no accident. Unlike conventional metals, metal glass has a messy atomic structure that makes it extremely resistant to deformation, corrosion and impacts. In fact, its hardness is 2.5 times higher than that of titanium, which makes it an ideal option for a piece that will be subject to constant mechanical stress. In addition to its resistance, this alloy presents a smooth and bright finish similar to stainless steel, which will give the folding iPhone a premium aesthetic in line with Apple standards.

According to the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple had already experienced with this material in smaller components, such as the tool to extract the SIM, but the iPhone Fold will be the first device in which it uses it in a key structural element. The exclusive supplier of this alloy will be Dongguan Eontec, a company specialized in the production of amorphous metals for the technology industry.

As for the device design, the iPhone Fold is expected to adopt a format similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy Z FOLD, with a main 7.8 -inch screen when it is deployed and a 5.5 -inch secondary screen on the deck. It has also been leaked that will have Two rear camerasa front camera and an ID touch sensor integrated in the ignition button, which would indicate that Apple has not yet managed to integrate Face ID under the screen.

Another of the most striking aspects is its thickness. It is said that, when completely deployed, the iPhone Fold will have a just 4.5 mm profilewhile, once closed, its thickness will range between 9 and 9.5 mm. These dimensions would make it one of the most thin folding phones on the market, which suggests that Apple has worked on an extreme optimization of internal components.

How much will the folding iPhone cost

The price of the iPhone Fold will not be suitable for all pockets. According to Bloomberg, Apple plans to launch it with a price close to 2,000 dollarswhich positions it in the Ultra Premium segment of smartphones. However, this is not a surprise, since the company usually bets on high prices in the first generation of its devices, especially when we talk about such innovative terminals.

In addition to this folding iPhone, Apple is also developing a 18.8 -inch device with flexible screen, scheduled for 2027. Although it is not yet clear if it will be an iPad or a MAC, this news reinforces the idea that the company is betting hard for folding screens technology.

With a launch planned for 2026, the iPhone Fold promises to change the rules of the game in the folding market. Apple is not usually the first to adopt new technologies, but when it does, it seeks to perfect them to the fullest. If the rumors are true, this device could mark a before and after in the smartphones industry.
