Every year, on January 1, banks pay interest on savings accounts. French people who have completed their Livret A, LDDS, LEP or PEL will therefore be rewarded for their efforts on January 1, 2025. But how much will they receive? And which booklets are the most profitable? A quick overview.

The Livret A and the LDDS: safe values

With a stable rate of 3% maintained throughout 2024, the Livret A and its twin the LDDS have not made waves. However, they remain investments of choice for the French, who have massively invested their savings there.

So how much will you receive on January 1, 2025 if you have saved in one of these two savings accounts? The calculations are simple: for 1,000 euros invested, you will receive 30 euros of interest. If you are in the national average with 7,000 euros in savings, you will receive the tidy sum of 210 euros. The most far-sighted, who have reached the ceiling of 22,950 euros, will pocket 688.50 euros.

Cherry on the cake: even if you have reached the limit, your interest will be capitalized. In short, they will be added to your capital and will themselves produce interest the following year. A boon for the 4.3 million French people who have a Livret A ceiling. Anyway !

The LEP: the champion in all categories (despite the decline)

The Popular Savings Book remains the most generous investment of 2024, even if it has experienced some turbulence. Its rate has been on a roller coaster: 6% in January, 5% in February, then 4% since August.

Concretely, for 1,000 euros saved over the entire year, you will receive 47.29 euros in interest. If you placed the average outstanding amount of 6,500 euros, prepare to receive 307.41 euros. And for the luckiest who have reached the ceiling of 10,000 euros, you will receive 472.94 euros. Pretty good!

PEL and CEL: the poor parents of savings

The PEL (Home Savings Plan) and the CEL (Home Savings Account) are looking gloomy in 2024. This is due to the single flat rate deduction of 30% which is eating into their yield. The PEL displays a nominal rate of 2.25% which melts like snow in the sun to reach 1.58% net. The CEL does even worse with a meager 1.4% net.

For 1,000 euros invested, count 15.80 euros in interest on a PEL and 14 euros on a CEL. The only consolation for the PEL: its high ceiling of 61,200 euros allows the biggest savers to pocket up to 966.96 euros in net interest.

  • The Livret A and the LDDS yield 3% in 2024, or 688.50 euros at the ceiling
  • The LEP remains champion with rates between 6% and 4%, offering up to 472.94 euros at the ceiling
  • The PEL and CEL disappoint with net returns of 1.58% and 1.4% respectively
