The world of automotive simulation is traditionally divided into three categories. On the one hand, entry-level steering wheels between €200 and €400, aimed at beginners with their underpowered belt motors. On the other, ultra-premium solutions costing more than €2,000, reserved for purists and professionals, such as the Simucube or the Fanatec Podium.

Between the two, some mid-range references struggle to convince. The Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel shakes up this hierarchy with a unique proposition at less than 810 (without the pedal board).

A manufacturing quality that imposes

Right out of the box, the G Pro Racing Wheel impresses. Its sleek, yet muscular design is reminiscent of the high-end automotive world. The 30 centimeter diameter steering wheel strikes the perfect balance between sportiness and comfort. The faux leather covering the rim exudes quality, as do the magnetic shift paddles with their satisfying click.

The integrated digital dashboard and customizable engine speed LEDs enhance immersion. The buttons and dials fall naturally under the thumbs, a crucial detail during endurance races where every action counts. The whole thing gives off an impression of solidity which justifies the investment.

The direct drive revolution

The real revolution lies in the direct drive system. No more straps that limit sensations, make way for magnets. With 11 Nm of torque, this steering wheel transmits the smallest details of the road. The vibrations from the kerbs, the precarious grip on the gravel, the gradual loss of grip in a turn… Everything is transcribed with astonishing fidelity.

The precision of the force feedback allows you to feel exactly what the car is doing. This quasi-physical connection with the virtual vehicle radically changes the driving experience. Thanks to this better reading of the car’s behavior, immersion is at its peak. Logitech’s Trueforce technology reaches its full maturity here.

Impressive versatility

On muddy stages, full of gravel or on WRC asphalt, the G Pro excels. The strength of the feedback can be precisely adjusted according to preferences and the type of race. At full power, it’s better to have your arms firmly attached!

PC/PlayStation 5 or PC/Xbox Series compatibility makes it easy to integrate into any setup. It is also possible to switch the base to G923 mode to increase the compatibility of the steering wheel with maximum games. The G Hub software allows extensive customization of the settings for each game. The saved profiles are loaded automatically when the titles are launched, an appreciable convenience which here shows the interest of having a software suite from a cutting-edge peripheral brand.

Learning power (be careful of breaking your wrist)

Switching from a classic belt-driven steering wheel to the G Pro takes some getting used to. The first turns of the wheel can be destabilizing: the power of the direct drive motor forgives no approximations. The movements must be more precise, more measured. This increased demand paradoxically contributes to the pleasure of driving.

It took me around ten hours to tame the beast. You will have to relearn certain reflexes, sometimes unlearn bad habits acquired on less efficient equipment. This learning curve, steep as it may be, results in rewarding mastery.

A host of accessories available

Logitech offers several accessories to complement the steering wheel. The G Pro Racing pedals, sold separately for €349, ideally complete the set. Their load cell sensor offers a feeling close to real car pedals. A gear lever and handbrake are also available for drift and rally enthusiasts. It is also possible to change wheels depending on the type of game, which once again reinforces the immersion.

The total investment may seem substantial. Yet, Across the high-end simulation market, value for money remains excellent.

A new benchmark in simracing

The Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel redefines what you can expect from a high-end consumer wheel. It combines the reliability and affordability of Logitech with performance worthy of professional hardware. Its price of €810, high, but reasonable in the world of simulation, in fact a more than relevant option for those who want to take the plunge into premium hardware.

The transition from a belt-driven steering wheel requires patience. The first hours can be strange as the sensations are so different. But once this adaptation period has passed, there is no going back. The sensations provided by the direct drive and the Trueforce system are incomparable.

The only disturbing point, if one had to be noted, is the choice of a micro-USB port in 2024. A point which will ultimately have little importance once the steering wheel is installed, but which could have been improved with the presence of a USB C port here.

The G Pro Racing Wheel represents the culmination of Logitech’s years of experience in gaming peripherals. It proves that it is possible to offer quasi-professional hardware at a price, if not accessible, at least justified. For the passionate simracer ready to invest, it now constitutes a benchmark at this price level.
