During the Covid period, American companies laid off workers en masse, even though there were no financial difficulties. While this bad period is over, Meta has just announced new layoffs, the reasons being linked to “alignments with long-term objectives”.

Meta made layoffs yesterday

Meta confirmed on Wednesday that it had made layoffs, as part of a reallocation of its resources in line with its long-term strategic objectives. Although the company did not release specific numbers, several departments were impacted, including Reality Labs, WhatsApp and Instagram.

Departures also affected teams working at Facebook, as well as recruiting services, legal operations and design.

Layoffs, but also redirections to other functions

Meta specified that certain employees were able to be relocated or change functions thanks to their skills, thus avoiding a significant number of layoffs.

Finally, some employees were offered reassignment options or severance pay, several employees who wish to leave Meta have chosen the latter solution. The report does not mention whether these measures are linked to abandoned projects.
