So that all platforms have the same emojis, these small symbols, which have completely integrated our modern modes of communication, are standardized. This standardization role is carried out by the Unicode consortium, which regularly publishes the list of new emojis, which is then adopted by operating systems and mobile applications. And recently, an internal document revealed the list of new emojis that could arrive with the Unicode 17.0 standard.
More precisely, according to the Emojipedia site, a document published by Unicode shows the new emojis proposed by the Emoji Standard & Research Working Group. In essence, these are proposals which have yet to be validated, but which have a good chance of landing on our keyboards later. Furthermore, the list of brand new emojis offered is very interesting. New emojis offered include:
- A distorted face
- A cloud of combat
- A ballet dancer
- An apple core
- An orca
- A creature inspired by Bigfoot
- A paper clip
- A landslide
- A treasure chest
Here’s what these new emojis might look like:
As per @unicode‘s latest documentation, there are 164 draft emoji candidates for the 2025/2026 emoji list.
These include nine brand-new emoji concepts, shown with sample designs below.

New symbols that won’t arrive for a long time
According to Emojipedia, the Emoji Standard & Research Working Group came up with a total of 164 new emojis. But the vast majority of these new features are only variations of existing symbols, unlike the completely new concepts mentioned above. Unfortunately, these new emojis won’t be hitting our devices for a while. Indeed, the Unicode 17 standard should only be validated in September 2025. Then, once the standard is confirmed, smartphone manufacturers and mobile application developers will still take some time to adopt Unicode 17 on their software.
As for the meaning of the different symbols, the Emoji Standard & Research Working Group associates a series of keywords with each of its proposals. The deformed head is associated with the following terms: “Vulnerable, light, airy, swollen”. But, as you may already know, the internet tends to find different meanings in emojis. For example, the thumbs-up, which is normally a sign of validation, is sometimes perceived as a passive-aggressive emoji by some people.
- Unicode regularly adds new concepts to the list of emojis available on our smartphones
- And this is preparing a new list for the Unicode 17 standard, which will be validated in 2025
- Among the proposals, there are new symbols, such as a deformed head, a bigfoot, etc.
- But we will still have to wait, because after the validation of Unicode 17 in September 2025, we will have to wait for its adoption by Apple, Google, and other companies
